Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Shurchi, South Nuratau range. Y.I. Loskin et al. in 1964 (1965), I.A. Pyanova et al., 1986 (371, pp. 2123). Which the term is not recommended for use.

Synonym: Shurchinskaya Suite, Шурчинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Alternation of slates and limestones, often with lenses and interlayers of black siliceous rocks, dolomitic siltstone (aleurolites), and carbonate sandstones. Thickness 100-300 m.

Regional extent

From Gobduntau in the east to Mt. Kokcha in the west (stretching in the form of narrow tectonic scales). According to data by R.S. Khan (1989), V.S. Korsakov et al. (1993), previous researchers included deposits of the Kalsarin Fm and Badamchali Fm in the composition of the Shurchin Fm

Contains hyoliths - Quadratotheca? sp., Hypolithellus sp., Cireotheca sp.; brachiopods - Linguella sp.; sponges - Chanceloria sp.; cyanobacteria - Stereophycus schochycus Pjan.


Age 

Initially, the suite was conditionally referred to the Ludlow (Loskin et al., 1965), then to the Upper Cambrian(?) Lower Ordovician (271; 280). Arbitrary base as Tremadocian, as the age needs clarity.
